This collection of essays describes the pursuit of biblical scholarship in the twenty-first century and explores the implications of modern and postmodern approaches, collaborative and emancipative models of graduate and undergraduate education, and public and political uses of the Bible. Special attention is given to the role of the Society of Biblical Literature. Frank Ritchel Ames is Professor of Medical Informatics and Director of Library Services at Rocky Vista University, Colorado’s new medical college, where he also teaches ethics. He is co-editor of Writing and Reading War: Rhetoric, Gender, and Ethics in Biblical and Modern Contexts (Society of Biblical Literature). Charles William Miller is Associate Professor of Religion at the University of North Dakota and previously taught at Pacific Theological College in Suva, Fiji. His research interests are primarily on the significance of social location for biblical interpretation. He has published in a range of journals, including Biblical Interpretation, Hawaiian Journal of History, and Journal of Religion and Society.
