Examine the parallels between Hebrews and Qumran literature
Drawing on the fruits of decades of scholarship on Second Temple Judaism and the Dead Sea Scrolls, Mason revisits the concept of Jesus as the priestly messiah in Hebrews. Mason provides a synthesis of all the passages dealing with the motif and previous scholarship on questions of context. He concludes by arguing that Melchizedek and other Qumran traditions provide the best sources of shared thought on Jesus as high priest.
